Fountain summer shutdown

1 December 2023

The City is committed to minimising its environmental footprint and is introducing a number of changes to reduce the amount of energy we use.

The highest demand on the electrical grid is between 3pm and 8pm and to reduce the load on the system, as well as being more energy conscious, fountains in a number of water bodies across the City will be automatically turned off at 3pm and turned back on the next morning during the summer months (December through to March).

The City currently has 35 water fountains and they consume a lot of energy and, therefore, cost the City considerable money to operate particularly during the evening peak energy demand period.

Importantly, there will be no impact on the water quality or the wildlife as a consequence of this change.

Parks where you will see this change are:

  • Civic Centre Gardens, Gosnells
  • The Agonis, Gosnells

Fountain at Brookland Greens`

This is an example of a fountain used throughout the City of Gosnells. These fountains require a high level of electricity for their operation, and increase the level of evaporation.

The shutdown period will not affect water quality within the water bodies.
