The City proposes to upgrade Alexandria Park with waterwise principles. This will involve conversion of some existing irrigated turf to hydro-zone areas (mulch only) and a section of path will be realigned with a new retaining wall. Additional plants and trees will also be planted.

Hydro-zoning is a way of grouping plants with similar water needs together to conserve water and provide optimum conditions for plants. Converting some lawned areas to native garden beds and mulched areas reduces the amount of water required, which is better for our drying climate. Effective irrigation design enables various areas to be set to receive differing levels of water, depending on their requirements. This reduces the reliance on irrigation and can improve the biodiversity of the area.

Sanctuary Waters Action Group provided feedback to the initial plan and changes have been made following this consultation. Refer to the concept plan for further details.
