YES now open!

19 May 2025

Young people in the City of Gosnells have a new $6.7 million state-of-the-art facility to enjoy, with the Youth Entertainment Space (YES) now officially open at Sutherlands Park in Huntingdale.

Designed in consultation with young City residents, YES boasts a split-level skating plaza with rails and banks, shallow skate bowl for all skill levels and a sealed pump track for BMX, mountain bikes or scooters.

YES also features an urban play area with hangout zone, social swings and platform seating, a rebound wall and a multipurpose area for games such as basketball, netball and futsal.

Mayor Terresa Lynes said YES was the first facility of its kind in metropolitan Perth.

“YES is covered by a huge, bright shelter that will allow the facility to be enjoyed by local young people all year round, in any weather, complete with colourful LED lights and projectors so the facility can be used to host youth events and activities after hours,” she said.

“This facility sends a message to young people – they are valued and are an important part of our community.

“The Councillors and I look forward to seeing this facility filled with young people keeping active, trying out new skating and BMX tricks, socialising and making connections with other young people from their neighbourhood.”

The City invested $4.7 million in YES, with the State Government contributing a further $2 million.

Local Government Minister Hannah Beazley said the project was another example of the State Government working with local government to deliver positive outcomes for local communities.

“The Sutherlands Park youth plaza is an incredible space for young people and local families to enjoy,” she said.

“This project has been many years in the making, and driven by local young people to ensure the final plaza reflects their interests and aspirations.

“I’d like to thank the City of Gosnells and local MLA Terry Healy for spearheading this project and delivering such a high-quality community asset.”

YES is an important part of the City of Gosnells Master Plan to transform Sutherlands Park into a one-stop location for recreation and sports for the local and wider community.
