Limbee Glade Reserve in Huntingdale is a drainage reserve and public open space that typically floods in winter.
As part of the City's commitment to provide adequate protection from stormwater damage and suitable levels of public open space, this drainage asset is being transformed. The drainage swale has been converted to an underground drainage storage system, which will allow the remaining area to be turfed and irrigated. Some new nature play equipment will be installed including log steppers and a bird nest swing.
To increase the level of access, new pathways will be installed around the park and new trees will be planted to increase the level of shade across the reserve.
During this work, buried asbestos has been discovered on site and works are temporarily on hold. The material found presents a very low risk as it is a non-friable substance. A specialist contractor has been engaged to investigate the extent of material present on site, to determine what remediation actions may be required.
You may observe contractors wearing specialist contamination suits and operating within a restricted, fenced area. These precautionary measures do not present a risk to surrounding residents. Signage will be installed to deter persons from accessing the area over the coming weeks.
Once the asbestos is removed, irrigation will be installed, as power has been supplied to the site by Western Power. Following this, turf installation will occur.
As this is a local park, the level of new amenities will meet the standards of local parks within the City, such as Rosebud Park and Redfox Park.
BOS Civil has been appointed to complete this work on the City's behalf.
