Environmental and planting activities

The City will be carrying out a range of environmental and planting activities during the construction of the Garden Street extension, and will continue for five years post construction. A 50m environmental buffer zone on either side of the clearing area will be established. Activities include:

Weed controlThroughout construction
Fauna fencing and culvert inspectionsWeekly for six weeks, then annually for next five years
Initial planting of battersMay to July 2028
Seasonal watering of battersThree weekly for two years post construction
Maintenance of battersEight weekly for three years post construction, then quarterly for next two years
Maintenance of buffersQuarterly for three years post construction, then bi-annually for next two years
Quarterly monitoring reportsQuarterly throughout construction and for five years post construction
Spring flora and vegetation monitoringAnnually for five years post construction
Spring monitoring reportAnnually for five years post construction
Feral animal trappingOne week program bi-annually for five years post construction


What's a road batter? A batter is the shape of the land between the road and the next level surface, usually when there is limited space.


What's a road buffer? A buffer is the area beside a road to improve safety and reduce environmental impacts such as noise and pollution. They can provide space for temporary traffic management and landscaping.
