Background
Cromarty Park in Canning Vale serves as an overflow basin for the City's drainage system. The vegetation in the wetland at the southwest corner of the park has become overgrown, causing the park to flood during periods of high rainfall.
Works were initially planned a year ago, however issues with acid sulphate soil levels caused the project to be put on hold. Plans are underway for works to commence 17 April 2026.
What we're planning to do
Vegetation will be removed from the wetland. The area will be reshaped and deepened to increase the volume in the catchment area.
It is expected fauna such as frogs and reptiles will be in this heavily vegetated area, so caution will be required during earthworks. All efforts will be made to protect the fauna as much as possible. A fauna spotter will be present, and clearing will occur towards the direction of the vegetation to be retained.
This work will reduce flooding and improve:
- safe pedestrian access
- the useful expectancy of the reserve
- landscape maintenance and
- associated costs.
